Why should children take Martial Arts?
Created specifically for ages 4-6, our Little Samaria Warriors program focuses on improving preschool-aged children’s basic motor skills and listening skills in a fun and motivating way.
The Little Samaria Warriors uses martial arts techniques and games to help your child develop their skills that are necessary for participation in any sport or activity: focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness & coordination. The curriculum also contains Little Samaria Warriors skills that are used to encourage & reinforce values.
- Self Defence - Learning to avoid conflict without fighting is the goal but, if necessary, our students develop the skills needed to defend themselves.
- Respect – At the core of martial arts training is discipline and respect. Children gain a sense of respect not only for others but also for themselves.
- Focus and Discipline – Our class structure instills focus and discipline in a non threatening environment.
- Confidence – Children gain confidence with each belt they earn as well as learn strikes and techniques to help defend themselves.
- “I Can” attitude – Martial arts give children a winning “I Can!” attitude to help them succeed in tackling the many challenges they may face.
- Goal setting – These life skills help them achieve their goals and reach their fullest potential.
What are the benefits of martial arts instruction for children?
In today’s society sometimes public education is not enough to fully develop children to their full potential. Millions of parents across the UK have decided to enroll their children in a martial arts school in order to supplement their children’s education. Parents at our school have seen first hand the many benefits of training for their children www.kaishouk.org testimonials.
What do you teach kids?
Younger children (ages 4-6) have a special class called the “Little Samaria Warriors” class. Although the theme of each class may focus on different physical skills, all of the classes have the same kind of mental / spiritual benefits for children. The learning of valuable skills such as patience, self-control, leadership, and public speaking are built into every class.
There are many different kinds of classes for kids to attend. Older children (ages 8 plus) have a choice of attending sparring class, joint locking class, throwing class, self defence class and forms class.
How does martial arts instruction teach kids self-esteem and confidence?
Competence is confidence. Confidence is gained through having set goals and achieving those goals. Our school’s belt system is the key. Children earn a different colour belt or rank when they advance to the next level. Kids accomplish their short term goal while at the same time progress to the longer term goal of black belt. When they get promoted, the recognition that students receive from their peers, is one of the most powerful forces of change. A promotion in rank tremendously improves the way they view and feel about themselves.
What is self-discipline?
We teach Children that a good martial artist is always self-disciplined. Meaning, doing what one needs to do, even if one doesn’t feel like doing it. Also, self-discipline means doing something without being told to do it. At our school we have a wonderful staff of patient instructors who work with the kids on being able to recognize and change undisciplined behaviour, our school’s instructors have high expectations and are also very clear about limits. We enforce good rules of behaviour in our martial arts school, and we expect the same good behaviour at home and in school.
How can martial arts channel aggression?
Martial arts classes provide a safe place for kids to honestly express their true feelings through movement. Also, the senior ranking students in class provide aggressive kids with positive examples of leadership and mutual respect. Your child will learn the right way to act and react to the world around them.
Traditional aspects of the art will be practiced, mixed with a range of teaching methods & strategies tailored to meet the needs of all students.
